About

Zakon (The Law) for percussionist and reciter was composed in 2017 at the initiative of the Society of Slovene Composers and percussionist Franci Krevh. The literary source for the piece is the Slovene Copyright and Related Rights Act (ZASP), which has been suitably adapted and tailored to function as a meta-text. The law, as understood from a distance by the average person, is seen as jargon, hidden fine print, read diagonally, and ultimately, like all institutional paragraphs, tied to finances. The percussive and vocal potential complement each other beautifully in their acoustic foundation. They converge through the articulation of the text, which becomes abstract, and the music, which becomes more concrete.

Since the adaptation of the official legal text has effectively become a new work of authorship, and there is no need to cite the original authors [as interpreted by copyright lawyer Urša Chitrakar], I dedicate the composition to her.
