About
The piece was composed in celebration of Ciril Zlobec’s 86th birthday and premiered in 2010 in Trieste—this is the performance we are hearing. The sound of the cello is in some ways the closest to the human voice, making it the most suitable musical medium to express the work of a poet whose words have transcended the material and turned into a meta-text. Music allows for such a concept—perhaps the most sincere rendering of what can be read between the lines of a poem. Hence the title: A Song Without Words.
