I Have a Dream, for clarinet and accordion, was composed in 2016 at the initiative of Nina Šenk, organizer of the Concert Atelier cycle by the Slovenian Composers’ Society. The piece is conceptually inspired by the famous I Have a Dream speech delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963 in Washington, D.C. The speech features numerous rhetorical devices, which are translated into musical expression by the two instrumentalists: metaphors, parallelism, gradation, irony, exaltation, alliteration, onomatopoeia, allusions, theses and antitheses, exclamations, and more.

The piece is not a direct musical setting of the speech; rather, the two musicians become the body and soul of a single speaker, internalizing the monologue and transforming it into an inner dialogue.
