The Well Prepared Piano by composer and pianist Žiga Stanič refers in its title to J. S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, but the concept instead focuses on extensive piano preparation. By inserting various objects into the instrument and combining multiple preparations across different registers, Stanič transforms the piano’s sound into a multilayered, orchestral texture. The result is a richly colored and polyphonic sonic environment in which the prepared piano functions almost as an “orchestrated” instrument, expanding the traditional acoustic possibilities of the piano.
